In 1922 Carl Munters and Baltzar von Platen invented a clever cooling technology called "absorption cooling".  The success of this technology helped build a company which developed became Electrolux Leisure Appliances.  Dometic became a brand in 1968 as part of this group, and finally became its own company in 2001.

WAECO has a strong market poition in the aftermarket for cars, trucks, recreation vehicles and boats.

They are now recognised top as the leading OEM supplier of built in coolers and electronic solutions to major automotive and boat manufacturers.

In 2007 WAECO was acquired by the Dometic Group and the brand WAECO became an important part of the Dometic Group brand portfolio.
